Britain’s most notorious prisoner Charles Bronson has raised thousands to send his mum on holiday by selling some of his paintings at auction.

The 61-year-old chose to sell the works of art to make up for upsetting his mother after his notorious brawl while smeared with butter with 12 prison guards last month.

Spurs fan Bronson admitted he “lost it” in at HMP Woodhiill in Milton Keynes when Tottenham’s arch rivals Arsenal defeated Hull City in the FA Cup Final.

Last night a painting called Fantasy Impression, which showed Bronson on a beach, sold for £1,000, while two items, Broadmoor Lunatic Asylum and Self Portrait, each sold for £950 when they went under the hammer at the auction in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

Bronson’s painting, Impression of Bedlam sold for £680.

Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert, of JP Humbert Auctioneers, said Bronson asked for eight pieces to be sold after the attack.

Bronson wanted to make up for upsetting his mother by getting involved in the incident by helping her to get away, according to Mr Humbert.
