Transfer Gossip : Its a Shaw thing. Luke set to join Red Devils

Luke Shaw

According to reports today, Luke Shaw is all but set to be the first signing of the post Moyes era and join Manchester United in the summer on a £30m deal. The Southampton left back has been the subject of transfer speculation for months with many suggesting he would be joining his boyhood club Chelsea. The Blues however, have declared themselves out of the race for Shaw after hearing of the bumper wage packet United are set to offer Shaw in an effort to lure him away from the Saints this summer and stating they did not feel they could match such a large contract offer.

The £100,000 a-week, five-year contract, on offer to Shaw is a vast amount for an 18-year-old, and would make Shaw English footballs highest ever paid teenager and is the start of the proposed £150m United rebuild following on from the dreadful season the Red Devils have had.

Despite being sacked yesterday morning, David Moyes is recognised as being largely responsible for persuading Shaw to place United ahead of Chelsea, with the Scot having put in long hours of work to try and secure the hottest prospect in the domestic game.

Chelsea were considered firm favourites to land Shaw, but the contract that United have put down on the table plus the attraction of becoming Patrice Evra’s instant successor in United’s back four has boosted confidence at Old Trafford that Shaw will be the first major signing of the summer.
